RSE Policy Consultation Period

As a part of your child’s education at Angel Oak Academy we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

I am writing to let you know that, over the next 2 weeks, we are sharing our draft RSE (relationships and sex education policy) for consultation with all stake holders, this is part of the PSHE curriculum.  The coverage of this area includes: healthy relationships, including friendships; families; growing and changing, including puberty; personal hygiene; changing feelings; becoming more independent; keeping safe; developing self-esteem and confidence.  Pupils are taught different elements of each of these throughout the primary age range.  Within the policy you will be able to see examples of some items which will be covered in each year group throughout the primary curriculum.

Following the consultation period, any feedback with be reviewed.  The policy will then be sent to our Trustees for validation.  In addition, as an academy we will continue to build our curriculum over the course of the year and inform you when we will be teaching key elements of this policy and national curriculum coverage.  This will involve sharing of different materials, holding workshops and information sessions and offering conversations around anything specific you would like to know about the content.

Please take time to read through the policy below. If you have any comments or concerns, please contact Mr Farley in writing before the half term break.
