Ideas for Healthy Eating and Physical Activity over the Summer

This year, children and families have been faced with a global pandemic, adding stress and challenges to day-to-day activities, including healthy eating and physical activity. The priority for Angel Oak is that children are safe and in good mental and physical health.

Growing healthily and maintaining a healthy weight is important not only for your child’s physical, social and mental wellbeing but also for their capacity to do well at school.

Here is a list of resources you may find useful over the summer holidays:

  • Alive ‘N’ Kicking is a free child weight management programme for children aged 4-17 years and their families, encouraging positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Programmes are currently running online.
  • While leisure facilities remain closed for now, you can access information on how to stay active from home.
  • Adopting an ‘active mile’ initiative, a simple and free way to encourage children to run, walk or jog for 15 minutes every day.
  • If families are struggling to access food as a result of COVID-19, refer to the Council’s Community Hub for support.
