Rights Respecting Schools

The Unicef UK Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.

A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.

The song Crucial Lesson was written by the Rights Respecting ambassadors here at Angel Oak Academy in Summer 2016.  Each class has one Rights Respecting ambassador and in Summer 2015 they met with Miss Crockatt, the Music teacher, on Friday lunchtimes to work on the song.

The aim of ‘Crucial Lesson’ is to teach all children in the UK about their rights.  The song focuses on three of the Rights ; the right to have an education, the right to freedom of thought, belief and religion and the right to play.

We hope that Crucial Lesson will help to educate children across the UK about their rights.  Enjoy the song and why not sing along?
